Environmental activists are calling on the Federal Government to 83 species of corals in the list of endangered species.
They say that global warming and ocean acidification are threatening the extinction of corals.
The Center for Biological Diversity, said Tuesday that coral species in question is found in Hawaii, Florida and U.S. territories in the Caribbean and the Pacific.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration should respond to the request of the group within 90 days and decide within a year if the list is justified.

Hot ocean temperatures cause corals to expel the algae that are based on growth, resulting in what is called bleaching.
