UAE Forum in Information and Communication Technology Research kicks off at Khalifa University

Khalifa University of Science, Technology and Research (KUSTER) today welcomed the UAE’s fourth Forum on Information and Communication Technology Research (ICTRF2010) at its campus in Abu Dhabi. The event was held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the Court of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees Kuster.

The ICTRF, held first by Khalifa University in 2006, focuses on advances in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), including research and educational programs, funding opportunities and the mechanism as well as new areas of research in the sector. The board includes eight sessions, including “Lessons of a NREN News”, “Frontiers in Research and Education in Information Technology: A View from the National Science Foundation,” Progress Building Research and Education Networks through collaboration “and” Achieving Information and Communication Technologies through Collaboration. ”

KUSTER Interim President, Dr. Arif Sultan Al Hammadi, said: “Khalifa University organizes this annual conference will bring together world experts specialized in creating online educational networks to discuss the latest developments in educational and related research these networks.

“One of the main objectives of this forum is to discuss the current state of research in the UAE and education network in terms of infrastructure, applications and funding. The ICTRF 2010 was the participation of a number of officials and representatives of public and private sectors, as well as university presidents, deans and representatives of the media. The forum is open to scholars based in the United Arab Emirates, researchers and industry professionals in the fields of ICT.

The main themes in these sessions were presented by prominent international guest speakers including: Mr. Donald Clark, CEO of REANAZ, Dr. Jeannette Wing, President’s Professor of computer science in the Department of Computer Science at the Carnegie Mellon University, Dr. Kenneth Ford, Founder and CEO of the Institute for Human and Machine Cognition (IHMC), Dr. Rick Summerhill, who served as chief technology officer of Internet2, Dr. Arthur MacCabe, Director Division of Computer Science and Mathematics at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Dr.. Dai Davies, General Manager of Delivery of Advanced Network Technology to Europe (DANTE) and Prof. Azarmi Nader, Director of the EBTIC.

ICTRF2010 was organized by the Khalifa University, and co-organized by the United Network for Advanced Research and Education (ANKABUT) and the Etisalat-BT Innovation Centre (EBTIC).The event is jointly sponsored by Etisalat and the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (ART).
